SIGNED

Handwritten letter from A.E. Newton (Somerset 1880 - 1914) to his fellow Somerset cricketer H.N.E. Alston, dated May 17th 1935. Alston seems to be proposing to bring a cricket team to Trull, Newton's local club, and Newton responds that the ground is available but that one might find a "better wicket" elsewhere. "..but if you come here, my groom, who acts as groundsman, will do the best he can for you". "Granny" Alston played just one game for Somerset in 1933 but was a mainstay of the Somerset Stragglers, and this is probably the team that Alston proposed taking to Trull.

20 x 12.5cm. Very good condition.
