Bastin was spotted playing for Exeter City by the legendary Arsenal boss Herbert Chapman, who signed him in 1929. He became one of the most exciting forwards of the 1930s, winning FA Cup, League Cup and League Championship medals, plus an England cap, by the age of 19. He retired from the game in 1947 to run a truckers' cafe on the North Circular, which is where tyro reporter Brian Glanville tracked him down. This is Glanville's first book.

First Edition. 8vo. 211pp. 32 b/w plates. Dust-wrapper, rubbed to edges with most of spine missing. Internally very good.
