Cricket autobiography of Eddie Paynter (1901-79), of Lancashire and England. His most famous Test appearances were against Australia on the Bodyline tour of 1932/33. At Brisbane Paynter was taken to hospital for tonsillitis, yet with England struggling at 216-6 in reply to Australia's 340, he came out to bat after a night in hospital, to make 83 and help his team to an unlikely first-innings lead. In five innings on tour Paynter averaged 61.33.
