Sir Leonard Hutton (1916-90) is regarded as the second greatest English batsman after Sir Jack Hobbs. In 79 Test matches he scored 6971 runs, mostly against strong South African and Australian combinations, at the incredible average of 56.67, a point higher than his first-class average.
