SIGNED
Single-sheet letter dated 12 September 1983 in which the 75-year-old Bradman discusses Swanton's projected biography of Gubby Allen and the recent book on himself by Michael Page in which the author "with my knowledge and support lays the blame squarely on Fingleton for that Adelaide dressing room leak in 1933". Bradman goes on to assert that Michael Parkinson's defence of Fingleton was because Bradman refused to appear on his TV show. With regard to Gubby Allen he writes "I read somewhere recently that he said they lost the Ashes in 1936/7 through an act of God. Apparently he still won't own up to the fact that had he closed the innings earlier in Melbourne they would have won." He concludes with "I really don't know where the cricket world is heading, dominated as it is by money and politics" An unusually candid letter from Bradman who would have felt safe sharing his thoughts with Swanton.
29 x 17cm. Very good condition. Written on air-mail stationery. Two small pieces of tape where Bradman would have sealed the letter. A fascinating insight.
