FRANK COBDEN (CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY) CRICKET AUTOGRAPH - FAMOUS VARSITY HAT-TRICK IN 1870

Original ink autograph of Frank Cobden, who played for Cambridge University from 1870-72. Cobden famously took a hat-trick in the 1870 Varsity match to win the game by 2 runs - this became known as "Cobden's Match". He lived at Capel Curig and he played for both Shropshire and Herefordshire. This autograph came from a visitors book from the early 1890s at Heath House in Shropshire where many country house cricket matches were hosted (including against the MCC and Free Foresters) - Cobden seemed to play regularly in these matches.
