Boxing postcard. Real photograph of the Jewish- American boxer Maximilian Adelbert Baer by Maurice Seymour. Signed in ink by Baer across the front, and dated 1937.

Baer had 84 professional fights from 1929 to 1941. In all, his record was 71-13-0, with 53 of those wins by knockout, making him a member of the exclusive group of boxers to have won 50 or more bouts by knockout. Baer defeated the likes of Ernie Schaaf, Walter Cobb, Kingfish Levinsky, Max Schmeling, Tony Galento, Ben Foord and Tommy Farr. He was recognised in America as the Heavyweight Champion of the World from June 14, 1934 to June 13, 1935. After retiring from fighting he was a well known boxing referee.

A clown in and out of the ring, Baer also appeared in many films and  television programmes.

 8.8 x 13.8cm. Real black and white photograph with white borders. Postally used with stamp and Esher franking (dated 14 Jun 37) and address in ink to reverse. Very small crease to lower left corner. In very good condition.
