Original scorecard for the match played at the Oval on September 2nd/3rd, 1878. In a remarkable match the Australians won by 8 runs despite Ted Barratt taking all 10 wickets in the first innings. His figures were 29-11-43-10. Barratt was a left-arm slow roundarm bowler and was a stalwart for Surrey during this period. He died in 1891 at the age of 46. Charles Bannerman scored a crucial 51 (out of 77) in that innings and then the great Fred Spofforth went to work on the Players team, taking 12 wickets in the match. This was, of course, the Australians' first cricket tour to England and preceded the Ashes by four years.

14 x 12cm. Fully printed. May have been slightly trimmed to top edge. There are a couple of folds with one just beginning to split at edge. Some paper residue to back where it must have been removed from an album. A printed advert for Thomas Green mowers and machinery is visible to reverse. Good condition. Extremely rare and historic.
