The earliest cricket books were largely instructional, including rare volumes from the early 19th century by Boxall, Lambert and Nyren. Many Victorian cricket books concentrated on the techniques of the game and the likes of Felix, W.G. Grace and Lyttelton all published volumes on their methods.
